             IMPORTANCE OF HEALTHY DIGESTION

     Food has nutrients but before nutrients can go to work, food must be broken down so that they can pass into our body. The digestive system breaks down food and delivers nutrients to every cell in the body via the bloodstream.

 

 Digestive problems can cause improper digestion and malabsorption of nutrients that can have far reaching effects.

Most of us do not recognize or know (including most of your doctors) that digestive problems wreak havoc over your entire body leading to allergies, arthritis, autoimmune disease, rashes, acne, chronic fatigue, mood disorders, autism, dementia, cancer and more.

 

 Having a healthy gut is central to your entire health. It is connected to everything that happens in your body. That’s why I almost always start helping people by focusing on the health of their gut.  If you want to be healthy, you have to get your gut working properly.

Enzymes are one of the most essential elements in the body. Enzymes are more important than the air you breathe, the food you eat, the water you drink! Enzymes are required for your body to function properly because without them you would not be able to breathe, swallow, drink, eat or digest food; you must have enzymes to perform all of these tasks.

 All cells require enzymes to survive and function. Regarding digestion, enzymes cause food that you eat to be broken down much faster than would occur otherwise. Research has shown that people who have chronic disease or have low energy levels also have low enzyme content in their blood, urine, and tissues. There is clearly a relationship between disease states and a person's enzyme levels. 

Enzymes are present in uncooked food, but once cooked they are destroyed leaving none to break down the food leaving only the enzymes in our bodies to do the work.  The more we depend on our intenally generated enzymes, the more sterss we put on our body's systems and organs leaving them less able to keep our immune system strong.

In an article from "Harvard Medical School Family Health Guide" there is a growing body of scientific evidence that suggests that you can treat and even prevent some illnesses with foods and supplements containing certain kinds of live bacteria. These beneficial microorganisms are called probiotics. 

  •  Some digestive disease specialists are recommending them for disorders that frustrate conventional medicine, such as irritable bowel syndrome and Crohns. Since the mid-1990s, clinical studies have established that probiotic therapy can help treat several gastrointestinal ills.

  • Treat and prevent vaginal and urinary infections in women.

  • Lab studies show that many probiotics have invigorating effects on the immune system. Inhibit or destroy toxins released by certain “bad” bacteria that can make you sick.

  • Research shows that certain probiotics raise levels of allergy-calming chemicals in the blood. 

  • Studies show that the S. cerevisiae boulardii strain reduces the risk of developing travelers diarrhea (if you start taking it a week before you go) and can help cure established infections .

  • Produce B vitamins necessary for metabolizing the food you eat, warding off anemia caused by deficiencies in B6 and B12, and maintaining healthy skin and a healthy nervous system.
